Friday, my friend Aoife and I headed to the Spirit One Spa at the Radisson Blu hotel in Galway. We’d been planning to do something different for a while and when Aoife mentioned a spa day, I jumped at the opportunity! I’d never had any spa treatments before besides a mini-facial so we did a bit of shopping around and settled on the spa in the Radisson Blu as the best value. There are such a huge amount of options out there, even in Galway, but we were definitely looking to make the most of our money!
So on Friday we arrived at the Spirit One Spa at 11 o’clock to book in for the package. It included an Elemis taster facial, a neck, shoulder and back massage, four hours in the Thermal Suite and a two-course lunch – all for €99. This particular package isn’t available any more but there are plenty of other packages to choose from. We were seen straight away and given lovely fluffy robes to change into. By ten past we were escorted into the Thermal Suite that housed several different steam rooms and saunas to try out as well as relaxation heated chairs. We did a bit of catching up and exploring before being called in for our treatments.
The beautician ran me through the treatments I’d be getting and talked to me about my skin type. She started with my neck, shoulder and back massage and I swear, it was more gruelling than going to a chiropractor! She got rid of all the tension in my back and got all the knots out – some much needed stress relief! Then it was onto my facial. She talked to me about my skin type and any skin troubles I had and then tailored the facial around my dermatological needs which was fantastic. When it was all finished, she wrote down a proper cleansing and toning routine for me to follow.
When everything was finished, Aoife and I headed back to the Thermal Suite and tried some of the steam rooms and saunas. First we tried the Laconium – a room with a dry heat where we could relax and chat. Then we went to the Aroma Grotto – a steam, moisturising room that made my skin and hair feel amazing using a combination of heat, light, colour and essential oils. The experience showers were lovely – the tropical shower used a combination of essential oil mist, jets of water and hot water to make your skin incredible soft. Lastly we used the heated ergonomic relaxation loungers to chill out for a while, while we caught up.
The whole experience was fantastic and well worth the money we paid. Although the lunch afterwards wasn’t amazing, the treatments and the Thermal Suite more than made up for the bad lunch and since we were the only people in the spa at the time, we were given first class treatment! I’m recommending this to everyone, I came out feeling better than ever and my skin feels incredible. Well worth the day out and a great place to catch up with your friends while being pampered!
