People are always asking me on my various social media accounts what make-up I use on my days off/nights out (from my awkward selfies)! For today, I’ve decided to write down some of my favourite products that I use everyday and what exactly I think of them! There are some products that I hold onto for dear life and there are others that I chop and change all the time (like mascaras). I’ve listed them below, feel free to comment and tell me what your favourites!
MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation NC15 (€36) – 9/10
I’ve tried and tested numerous foundations and tinted moisturisers (disasters) and the only one I’ve ever truly been happy with is MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation. I’ve notoriously dry bad skin and this is the only make-up that gives me proper coverage without exacerbating my dry skin. Miracles do happen! It’s also one of the only brands that does a colour pale enough for me so thumbs up for that! It’s my life saver!
Applied with: I’ve tried plenty of different brushes and have hopped between numerous foundation brushes from Benefit, MAC and Real Techniques but was never happy with the result. Now I apply my foundation with a F20 buffer brush from Blank Canvas Cosmetics (€13.99) and a stippling brush from Real Techniques (€15.99) and I’m so much happier with the results! I recommend these two brushes to everyone!
Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer 01 (€24) – 9/10
Boi-ing is an item everyone should have at their disposal. Covers up most blemishes and helps your skin look more smooth for foundation application. It covers up those bags a treat and so handy when you’re in work for the day and need a make-up re-touch! The 01 shade is perfect for me and I have it on my person at most times!
Applied with: A Benefit mini-brush that I got in a Confessions of a Concealaholic box set. I have to pick up a concealer brush at some point but until then I’m perfectly fine with the mini-brush!
Seventeen Miracle Matte Pressed Powder in Natural Fair (€5.09) – 10/10
This is a product I recommend to everyone! For only €5.09, this powder gives complete coverage and a matte complexion without clogging up your face. It comes in several different shades and in loose powder form too. I wear it every day and it stays for hours.
Applied with: A Real Techniques Powder brush (€16.99) and an Avon powder brush. The size of the Real Techniques brush gives you a lot of coverage and the powder glides on extremely easily!
Benefit The POREfessional PRO Balm (€34) – 8/10
The POREfessional balm is something I started to use recently and I use it almost everyday now! It dramatically reduces the pores on your nose and makes the foundation on your nose stick a lot longer.
Benefit ‘That Gal’ Brightening Primer (€31) – 6/10
This primer has helped me out in some red-faced situations (literally) but I wouldn’t be too stressed out about it if I left the pot at home! This helps you glide on the make-up a little smoother and makes your complexion a little more even before you get prepped for foundation.
Benefit High Beam Highlighter (€27.50) – 9/10
This is a lifesaver when it comes to illuminating your face! In photos, it hits the light and gives you incredible bone structure…when applied properly, that is! I live by this stuff, especially when I’m heading out and know there will be a lot of photos taken!
Benefit Watt’s Up! Highlighter (€35) – 7/10
Again, this highlighter is great for photographs but ‘High Beam’ is far superior to it. The silvery transparent feel of the ‘High Beam‘ gives you that natural glow whereas ‘Watt’s Up!‘ contains gold shimmer so is much more manufactured-looking. This does look great on the skin but I would always choose the more subtle version.
Eyeliner & Eyebrow Pencils
Benefit Bad Gal Eyeliner (€21) – 8/10
I love Benefit products (in case you haven’t guessed) and this is no exception. ‘Bad Gal‘ has been my go-to kohl for the last few years and I usually have it in my bag. I have no time for liquid or gel liners, smudgy kohl is always my choice and as they go this is a good one.
Soap & Glory Smoulder and Kohl (€6.50)- 9/10
Just when I thought I couldn’t get better than ‘Bad Gal‘, I found this little gem. The precision is better and the staying power is much longer. Plus the price s better on the wallet too! One point taken off because it doesn’t look as neat as some other pencils but that’s not a huge issue. Plus there is an attached pencil sharpener which makes life so much easier!
Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in Deep (€21.50) – 10/10
I adore this. For someone who has some dark brows, it’s so good to find an eyebrow pencil that fills in your eyebrows and still looks natural. I’ve toyed with the idea of HD brows but this pencil really does everything you need it to and the attached brush gives a great shape to your eyebrows. I would recommend to everyone!
L’Oreal False Lash Telescopic Lash Mascara in Magnetic Black (€16.79) – 6/10
Fundamentally there is nothing wrong with this mascara. The brush is good, the colour is consistent and it does lift your eyelashes. However, I’m not a fan of the spider eyelash effect and I find it gives you that. I much prefer a fuller lash and I find most other mascaras I have give a better finish. This is just proof that sometimes spending money doesn’t always mean a good product.
No7 Exceptional Definition Mascara in Black (€14.95)- 8/10
This too has a thin brush but not so much that it gives spider eyelashes. I always get a good finish from this and the thickness of the mascara is good – not too thin, not too thick. Always a good thing. Still something lacking though.
Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara (€23) – 9/10
I always go back to Benefit – I think I have an addiction! It’s a gorgeous mascara with a thick brush giving a full and thick lash. I enjoy putting this on in the morning and I feel it frames my eyes well. Also a nice black colour which is long-lasting, not smudging under the eyes.
Benefit ‘They’re Real!’ Mascara (€26) – 10/10
I’ve no complaints about ‘They’re Real‘, it is by far the best mascara I’ve EVER used! The colour is great, the texture is great: sure it’s just all great! I really enjoy using this mascara every day and it gives my eye that framing they need.
Urban Decay Naked2 Palette (€44)- 9/10
I’m somewhat boring when it comes to eyeshadow colour and I never stray from neutrals! I always use the ‘Blackout’ as an eyeliner (much more staying power than pencil) and the rest are great as neutral colours. If anyone is like myself and loves neutral colours, then I cannot recommend this high enough! I took a point off because I just don’t use these enough!
No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow in Truffle (€9.25) – 9/10
I’ve had this longer than I care to remember and it just keeps on going! The colour is gorgeous, really neutral. It’s perfect for work but when loaded up a bit more, it’s fantastic for going out! I’m dreading when this runs out because I don’t know if No7 are still doing it!
I’ve already written up an article about my favourite lipsticks here (mind you, I’ve gotten more since writing) so I’ll let you explore that! Feel free to comment and let me know your favourites!
Until next time,
