Anyone that knows me, knows that I love trench coats. There is something very Brit style about the trench coat and you’ll find no better than Burberry for the best coat style around! The trench coat can date all the way back to the 1850s, with Aquascutum claiming ownership of the invention. However, Burberry insist that they invented the modern trench coat, designing a new-style gabardine raincoat for the British Army to replace the heavy greatcoats they already had.
Whoever did invent this iconic piece of clothing, couldn’t have known how popular the design would be, even today. The design, traditionally worn in various tan shades, has undergone lots of colour and style modernisation but is still very obviously that symbol of British elegance and class it set out to be. The trench is now synonymous with the name Burberry and is one of the few items of clothing that looks as good on men as it does on women.
I am a bonafide trench coat admirer and I would own hundreds if I could! So far, I only have two – one from Pull and Bear with that has the very traditional tan colour and belt and my other is from Pamela Scott, a light beige colour with a modern leather sleeve and trim. This leather-trim trench is something I can’t get enough of, mixing the traditional design with a sexy modern twist on a piece that looks smart and chic while being on trend, EVERY season.
Below I’ve found some fabulous trench coats that I totally covet! Trenches come in a range of prices and if you’re downhearted by the fact that Burberry charge so much, there is always a fabulous alternative if you look hard enough! I love the mixture of classic colours you can choose from and the textures are now vaster than ever. You can throw the trench over a suit for work, a little black dress or jeans and a t-shirt. There is nothing you can’t do with the trench and I hope you’re all looking through your wardrobe wondering what you can do next with them!
